Death's-Head Hawkmoth Unisex Crew Socks

$ 11.50

The Death's-Head Hawkmoth gets its name from the skull-like mark on its thorax. These are big moths: with a wingspan between 3 and 5.19 inches. The fastest moth in the world belongs to this genus; it can fly at speeds up to 30mph and can hover like a hummingbird to drink nectar from flowers. Appearing in literature and popular culture from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Thomas Hardy's The Return of the Native, and John Keats mentioned them in his poem “Ode to Melancholy.” And, of course, in Thomas Harris’s book Silence of the Lambs.  Think the name's a little too spooky?  In Dutch, they're called Doodshoofdvlinder; in German, Totenkopfschwärmer; and in Swedish, Dödskallesvärmare. Here the Death's-Head Hawkmoth or Doodshoofdvlinder is shown in black and shades of ivory, cream and mocha browns.  Soft combed cotton, double terry in the heel and toe area and smooth seams add durability and comfort.
