Capybara Chill (Teal) Women's Crew Sock
The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) can certainly lay claim to the title Rodent of Unusual Size. Closely related to guinea pigs, capybaras are the largest rodents (close to 2 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 150 pounds) on Earth. These stout, long-haired creatures are semi-aquatic and inhabit ponds, marshes, forested wetlands, and other waterways. Partially webbed feet help them swim skillfully and transition from land to water seamlessly. The Capybaras on these socks are enjoying a spa day, with a yuzu bath. Every year for the winter solstice, zookeepers at multiple zoos across Japan soak capybaras in yuzu baths. The tradition started at Izu Shaboten Zoo in 1996 and has since taken off, though the practice has been used as a way to ward off illness for centuries. The aroma of yuzu, which has been described as a cross between lemon, grapefruit, and mandarin, has been suggested to be beneficial in reducing stress. It is suggested that the yuzu baths are not only relaxing but beneficial to the Capybara's skin. We certainly feel relaxed and chilled out just looking at these socks!
